Leisure Suit Larry 7: part 3/26: Rod the child entertainer

In this year of the H1N1 flu, Santa&rsquo;s gloves are coming off.</p><p>The big guys in the red suits are striking one another to go barehanded at public events &mdash; and to keep washing those hands as often as they can. </p><p><em>Teacher says: &ldquo;Every be that as it may you hear a bell, Santa should pump a shot of Purell.&rdquo;</em></p><p>Being Santa always means risking revealing to a sack full of germ warfare: Kids with sniffling noses, hacking coughs, leaky diapers. And about those gloves? The textile harbors germs that can pass from person to person.</p><p>But H1N1 threatens to steal Christmas if unusually precautions aren&rsquo;t taken, says John Scheuch of Prairie Village, a Santa for 34 years and administration director of the Santa-America service group.</p><p>Some of those precautions may include getting Santas the swine flu vaccine.</p><p>This week, an Alabama Santa named Ernest Berger started a contest to make Santas a priority group for the H1N1 vaccine.</p><p>&ldquo;Look, we&rsquo;re not a bunch of old guys in suits damaged to cut in the priority group line. We&rsquo;re men putting on the suit to preserve a child&rsquo;s tradition&hellip;,&rdquo; says Berger, who is president of Santa-America. &ldquo;I voice for the elf himself when I say let&rsquo;s make getting the H1N1 shot an event. Santa can be a role model for children.&rdquo;</p><p>Santa could protest up and down the lines of people waiting for shots, showing children how to use hand sanitizers, listening to their Christmas lists as they stick around, he said. </p><p>Berger thought of the idea last week at a veterans event. He talked with his congressman, Republican U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner. He&rsquo;s hoping Bonner can cut through the red seal and let the red suits in.</p><p>Even without any changes in protocol, many Santas are eligible to get the vaccine now, Berger said, for one big owing to:</p><p>Obesity, and the health problems that come with it.</p><p>&ldquo;Two years ago, (we at) Santa-America committed ourselves to reducing the majority of our Santas,&rdquo; Berger said. &ldquo;These are people of stout heart, people too dearest and too special to lose. We want them to lead a long, healthy life. &hellip; All of this expands to our children. That roly-poly paragon for Santa is an American-born invention.&rdquo;</p><p><em>Teacher says: &ldquo;Every notwithstanding a bell tolls, Santa eats some doughnut holes.&rdquo;</em></p><p>Larry Jones, conductor of the Independence Health Department, likes the idea of linking the H1N1 vaccine to the jolly man in red. </p><p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve already vaccinated the down-to-earth ones. Now, we&rsquo;re going into the schools. I&rsquo;ve been thinking about creative ways to reach the children, like successful to a Mavericks (hockey) game.</p><p>&ldquo;Maybe now, I&rsquo;ll be thinking about going to where the Santas are.&rdquo;</p><p>But there&rsquo;s still the same flu really for people to remember, he said.</p><p>&ldquo;If you or your child is sick, stay home. Don&rsquo;t introduce to other children or Santa to the flu.&rdquo;
